Vapur The Anti-Bottle

The Anti-Bottle

According to Food and Water Watch, that plastic requires up to 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce.  Did you know that bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.  Rather than being recycled, about 75 percent of the empty plastic bottles end up in our landfills, lakes, streams and oceans, where they may never fully decompose.

Not to mention how bulky they are, they never pack well in your backpack for hiking, biking or even traveling on a plane.

About the Anti-Bottle
Vapur Anti-Bottles are completely BPA-free and are constructed of three layers of ultra-durable plastic.  The Anti-Bottle is designed to stand when full and can be rolled, folded or flattened when empty, making it easy to use and carry everywhere you go. Unlike rigid water bottles, that are bulky when empty, the Anti-Bottle can be easily tucked away, conveniently fitting into pockets, purses and packs.  The Vapur Anti-Bottle is dishwasher safe and cleans easily on the top rack of most dishwashers.  You can even freeze your Anti-Bottle for nice cold water or use it as an icepack.  It comes with a convenient carabiner, making it easy to clip to your purse, belt-loop or pack.

Products
Vapur has two sizes of the Anit-bottle available, the original .5L and the fun size .4L smaller version.  They come in solid colors, fun designs, limited edition designs and now the new Artist series.

Dress your anti-bottle in a sweater.  The Vapur® Sweater is a sweat-wicking, insulating bottle cover that protects your Anti-Bottle® from the elements and keeps beverages colder, longer.

Where to purchase
Vapur products can be purchase at stores all over the US and Canada.  Visit the store locator to find the retailer closest to you or you can purchase directly from the Vapur website

Over Thirty Mommy's Thoughts
We have been enjoying our Vapur bottle.  I never really liked plastic water bottled, they take up too much space and are terrible for the environment.  We used the Vapur anti-bottle on a recent plane trip and it came in very handy.  I rolled it up in my bag and after clearing security, I filled it up so that we would have water available to us for our 10 1/2 hour plane ride.  The anti-bottle works great and it perfect for adults or even older children.  I think that it is a bit too much for toddlers, my daughter had too much fun squeezing it do get the water to "jump" out.

Over all, I think the Vapur Anti-Bottle is a great idea, is perfect for hikers or anyone that wants to have water on the go and would make an excellent stocking stuffer for all types of people this Christmas season.

Carmex Skin Care Review and Giveaway

Carmex Skin Care Review and Giveaway

It does not get exceptionally cold or dry where I live (nothing like the two years I spent living in Wyoming!) but for some reason in the winter time I get terribly dry skin on my hands and feet.  I find myself putting on lotion multiple times a day and nothing seems to help.  I can not tell you the number of different lotions that I have tried or the countless dollars that I have wasted purchasing these lotions.

I was thrilled when Carmex offered to let me try out their line of skin care products including Carmex Healing Lotion and Carmex Healing Cream.

Over Thirty Mommy's Thoughts
Like I said earlier, I get pretty bad dry skin.  My hands get rough and scratchy which is annoying at best but the heels of my feel get really bad.  They get dry and start cracking and I have a terrible habit of making it worse by trying to remove the cracked skin and tearing it down to raw skin. I know TMI, sorry.  I have been using the Carmex Healing Lotion on my hands and while they are still dry (probably because I use extremely hot water to wash my hands a million times a day), they are getting better.  My hands are not as scratchy as before.  As for my heels, I have been using the Carmex Healing Cream and it seems to be working great.  I did not expect it to work miracles and instantly cure my dry skin but it is doing a wonderful job.  It seems that they are improving a little each day which is more than I can say for the dozens of other lotions and creams that I have tried.

For those of you familiar with my blog, I usually tend to use natural and organic products.  This has not always been the case but more so now because while I was pregnant I read all about the harmful effects that standard product have on baby skin.  The new Carmex Healing Lotions and Creams do  contain parabens as well as petrolatum and mineral oil but I am being careful not to leave them around for my daughter to use and since they are working for me, I am not going to stop using them at this point.

Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions about using products with these ingredients, but I wanted to inform you of the contents since I usually do not promote them and wanted you to have all the info for deciding to make your own purchase.

Connect with Carmex: Facebook and twitter.

Win It: One lucky winner will receive your own Carmex lotion prize pack. This giveaway sweepstake is open to US residents.

5 Gifts That Will Make Your Grandchild's First Christmas Extra Special

5 Gifts That Will Make Your Grandchild's First Christmas Extra Special

Christmas is a special time of year for everyone. As a grandparent with a new grandchild, the experience is even more rewarding. Memories are made with friends and family. Delicious food is enjoyed at the table. Homes and trees are decorated with lovely decorations. Gifts are given and received. There is nothing not to love about Christmas. But how can you know what gifts will create the perfect memories for your grandchild's first Christmas? Luckily, we have come up with five gifts that will make Christmas extra special for you and your grandchild.

One of the most common "first Christmas" gifts that is given is an ornament. There are many different varieties of ornaments that can be purchased for your grandchild. Make this gift even more special by personalizing it. Add their name, the year, or just a special message from you to them. This may not mean anything special to them now, but in a few years they will cherish this gift more than words can express.

A ‘hand printed’ ornament is a special gift that not only represents their first Christmas and your love for them, but also serves as a sort of record for the size of their hand or even of their foot. This gift is extremely personalized because it is an actual print of your grandchild's hand or foot. Before you know it, your grandchild will be 5 years old, 10 years old, a teenager, or even in college. Time will fly by and this ornament will be a fantastic reminder of their first Christmas.

The last kind of ornament that can be given is a photo ornament. A baby picture of your grandchild at Christmas can be inserted into an ornament of your choosing. Once again, you can make this ornament even more personalized by adding your grandchild's name and the year or "Baby's First Christmas" onto the ornament. Want to make it even more special? Write a personalized note or poem on the back of the picture for your grandchild to find and enjoy in a few years.

A personalized photo frame with a picture of you and your grandchild is a good Christmas gift that can be enjoyed year round for years to come. Just like with the ornament, a personalized letter or poem on the back of the photo is an extra surprise that can be discovered later on in your grandchild's life.

Another fantastic idea for a "first Christmas" gift is a scrapbook of their first year. Gather pictures and memories from their first year and put it together into a scrapbook that can be enjoyed for years to come. Seeing their life in a scrapbook from a time they cannot remember will provide lots of story opportunities during future Christmas celebrations.

No matter what you choose to give your grandchild on their first Christmas, it will be a fantastic gift for all of your family to enjoy. By making the gifts personalized and extra special you will make the celebration special and even future Christmas celebrations exciting.

Bah Humbug on Christmas Pie

Bah Humbug on Christmas Pie

While Ebenezer Scrooge from the Charles Dickens novel, a Christmas Carol, wanted to get rid of Christmas altogether, cake lovers would be happy to just get rid of the pies that haunt Christmas. Let’s face it. Cake is better than pie just for the fact that it is sweet. Remember, this is supposed to be desert and not something nutritional with morsels of fresh fruit. And what about the way pie looks? Round and topped with a brown crust, pies look pretty dull compared to cakes. One can roll a cake or cut it into many decorative shapes, like a triangle for a Christmas tree. There are even baking pans in the shapes of angels, Santa, reindeers, gingerbread men and more. One gets the pleasure of pouring delicious cake batter into so many fun shapes. And how many fun shapes does a pie come in? The votes are in, and it has been unanimously decided that cake trumps pie.

Make a festive Chocolate Jubilee Log

The chocolate jubilee cake is always a hit during the Christmas holiday. Not only is it scrumptious, its shape represents the traditional Yule tide.

Ingredients

Cake
1/3 cup cake flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons of corn starch
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/3 teaspoon of salt
4 large eggs, separated
1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of confectioner’s sugar

Filling
14/5 ounce can of pitted cherries
2 cups of whipped topping
1/4 cup of coffee flavoured liqueur
2 tablespoons of powdered sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper. Grease and flour paper. Combine all powdered ingredients in a bowl and mix well. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks and ½ cup of sugar until fluffy. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites on high until foamy. Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar and cream of tartar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold 1/3 of beaten egg whites into egg yolk mixture. Alternate folding in egg whites and flour mixture. Pour batter in pan and bake for 15 minutes. Sprinkle a towel with powdered sugar. Loosen cake from edges of pan and turn upside down onto powdered towel. While hot, roll cake and towel from narrow end. Cool on wire rack at least 30 minutes. Add cherries, powdered sugar and liqueur in a small bowl. Drain liquid and spoon over cooled cake. Add whipped topping to cherries. Spread cherry mixture over center of cake and roll cake into a log. Refrigerate for one hour. Garnish with whipped topping.

Elves Have No Time to Bake

For those of you who are just too busy or overwhelmed with holiday activities to bake, ordering a Christmas cake just might be the perfect present to give yourself. Consider ordering a festive cake from your local bakery. You can also order a cake online and have it delivered. Bakemeawish.com features delicious cakes from Chocolate Lava Truffle Cake to Strawberry Shortcake to appease even the fussiest of cake lovers. Just remember to order cake, not pie.

Curious Critters by David FitzSimmons

by David FitzSimmons

We have a fairly large book collection for our daughter.  Lately she has become more independent and wants to do everything herself, her nightly book reading is no different.  We have found that now that she is "reading" us her books, she gravitates towards picture books making Curious Critters the perfect book for her (plus she likes the critters).

About Curious Critters
Each Curious Critter is photographed against a white backdrop, showcasing the animals' colors, textures, and shapes with precision and clarity. Along with each photo is a vignette, told from the critter's perspective, that educates and entertains. For example, a bush katydid explains her bubblegum-pink color, a poetic opossum opines upon her often-shortened name, and a far-from-modest black swallowtail butterfly lets readers in on her secret for avoiding predators.

When parents read CURIOUS CRITTERS with their kids not only will they
have fun reading, but they also inspire in them a life-long interest in nature. Kids will want to swap TV and video games for a trips to the park or more time in the backyard. So, get ready to have a budding biologist on your hands!
About David FitzSimmons

He photographs and writes for various magazines, including Outdoor Photographer, PopularPhotography, and Shutterbug, newspapers, and online publications, and his over-100 calendar credits include numerous titles by BrownTrout and Barnes & Noble. Curious

Critters is David's first children's picture book.

A former high school English teacher, David has been in education for
twenty years. He is a professor at Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio. David holds a Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University, with a specialty in narrative theory-investigating the components of storytelling-something that influences his photography and writing.

Curious Critters can be purchased from the Curious Critters website.  It is available for $19.95 and all copies purchased from the site directly are signed by the author.

Over Thirty Mommy's Thoughts
This book is unlike any other on our book shelf.  Wiggle Bean loves to look at the pictures and tell me what each critter is.  It is a wonderful book for teaching children about animals and the environment.  It is written for children from ages 4-8 but a just shy of 3, my daughter still gains great knowledge from it, even if it is just by looking at the pictures and recognizing the animals.

Place another coffee filter into the open end and tuck into the head area. Tie ribbon around the neck in a tight bow. Take another coffee filter and accordion fold and fan out the wings. Fold the excess chenille into a loop for hanging. Wrap the gold chenille around a bottle cap to form the halo. Hot glue the halo behind the angel’s head. Hot glue the wings behind the angel.

- 1 gold chenille stem
- Scissors

The simplicity of this craft is so easy for the little ones. Wind the chenille stem around your finger. Push one end of the step into the chocolate. Cut out a star from construction paper and glue it to the top of the tree.

The name can be printed on the cup with a magic marker.

Materials

-Paper Cups
-Napkins
-Lollipops
-Chenille stems
-Magic marker

Printable Elf Napkin Rings

This is a fun and easy project, which can even be done before Christmas dinner. Print a pattern for an elf’s face from the computer. Have the kids colour in the face with pencils. Cut a 2-inch strip of construction paper. Wrap the strip around a napkin and glue it. Then glue the elf face on top.

SantasHideout.com: Mom's Secret Weapon this Holiday Season

SantasHideout.com: A Fun way to Keep Gift Giving Magical

Crikey!  Have you looked at the calendar lately?  Yes, it is already Thanksgiving week and Christmas is a mere 33 days away.  Have you started your shopping yet?  No, me either so at least you are not alone.

I remember the good old days of scouring the toy catalogs, clipping out the photos of the gifts I absolutely had to have, pasting them to a piece of paper with descriptions and mailing the list off to Santa.  Man how things have changed!

As children (or maybe it is me!) get older it seems their Christmas lists get longer and either I am no longer Hip and with it or things on wish lists are getting more confusing.  Last year my teenage nephew gave me a list and the only thing I even recognized on the list was a video game and the only reason I knew what that was is because it was also on my husband's wish list.  Every thing else on the list was gibberish to me and I was at a loss while shopping at the store.

Enter Santa's Hideout!  Santa's Hideout is a safe, fun and free way to make holiday gifting magical for the while family!  Plus it makes planning easier for mom (and aunt).  Santa's Hideout lets kids securely make their lists for Santa, parents, friends and family.  You can shop and share from them easily and parents can track purchases alleviating the need for post Christmas duplicate gift returns (man those lines are something!).  There is even a section where the big guy himself can send words of encouragement to your child.

Santa's Hideout takes the guess work out of holiday shopping!  Once the child creates their list, it can easily be sent to family members (complete with photos!).  Special items can be designated and held for North Pole delivery only.

How It Works

Using Santa's Hideout is simple, you register in 2 easy steps where you will create your lists and give Santa some ground rules. The parent creates a free account at Santa’s Hideout for each child and sets the limit of how many items the child can select and the budget.

The parents can help children add items to their list or older kids can add items on their own easily by searching and then drag & Dropping them into their list.

As a parent, you have complete control over the list so if you don’t like something your child has selected, you can just delete it.

After the list is complete, parents can share individual items or the entire list with family and friends through email, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or Tumblr.

Email alerts are sent to the parent when any updates are made to the list so you are always know who is purchasing what gift.

Gift list purchases can be made online through Amazon via the Santa’s Hideout website. If you purchases are made offline, you can still record that the item was purchased. Parents can also create a group list if it’s a purchase for all the children like grandma buying the kids an Wii or other family gift.

I invite you to check out Santa’s Hideout and see how easy and fun it is to use.

Check out this video to learn more and see Santa’s Hideout in action!

Over Thirty Mommy's Thoughts
What a great idea!  While all of my family is local to me, my husband's family is spread out over many states.  It is hard enough explaining gift items to local family members let alone those that live hundreds or even 1000+ miles away.  If you ask Wiggle Bean what she wants for Christmas she will tell you "A jeep one" 100% of the time.  Now being super mom, I know exactly what "a jeep one" is but when she tells anyone else all I see are blank/confused stare on their faces until I explain that what she means is a Power Wheels Barbie Jeep, then I get the "oh, I get it now" look.

Since it is online, it includes photos of each item (for those of us that just cant figure out what the heck a Freerider Skatecycle or Air Swimmer is), it makes shopping easier.  I can take Santa’s Hideout lists on the go since it is optimized for mobile use. I can easily take lists on my phone and wander around the store pretending I am not lost. I can also click an item on the list and it will take me to an online retailer for purchase (making shopping for my husband's family very easy since I would have had to ship the gifts anyway).

Wiggle Bean has already (with my help) created her list and I will soon be sending the link to SantasHideout.com to all of my siblings so that they can have their kids make lists too because let me tell you, shopping for 13 nieces and nephews is hard enough with out mom's secret weapon, SantasHideout.com!

Fisher-Price Dora Dress Up Collection Doll and Fashions
I have a young daughter that is totally in love with Dora and has been for quite sometime. Her room is decorated with a Dora headboard, a Dora blanket and even a couple Dora posters.  We have numerous Dora videos, toys and even a few clothing items.  I do not see her love of Dora ending any time soon, making the new Dora Dress Up Collection doll and fashions the perfect Christmas gift.

Armoire comes with six hangers, an exclusive nightgown fashion just for Dora, and a convenient carry-along handle for portable play. The Dress-Up Bed™ comes with a soft blanket.

Over Thirty Mommy's Thoughts:
This doll is absolutely beautiful.  I might have played with Dora for a minute or two to test her out but I have not let Wiggle Bean see her yet because the Dora Dress Up collection doll and fashions would make such a perfect Christmas gift for her that I wanted to save them.  The Dora Dress Up Collection was created for ages 3+, making it a great doll for Wiggle Bean.  At 15-inches, Dora is lager that a typical doll allowing small hands to be able to change the clothes and play with her easily.  The accessories that come with the doll and fashions are larger than those that come with other toys so I do not have to worry about them being accidentally vacuumed or chewed on (not that she is one to chew on her toys).

As a mother to a young and impressionable girl, I find some of the dolls on the market are not appropriate in their appearance or clothing options.  While I am not one of "those" parents that want to ban everything that I think is inappropriate, I do monitor the toys that I purchase for her for what we feel is right for her age.  I do feel that makeup on toys for toddlers and skirts that a super short are not for my daughter at her age.

This is absolutely not a factor with the new Dora Dress Up Collection.  She comes dressed in a cute outfit and all available fashions are completely age appropriate not only for toys that my daughter plays with but also for the Dora image that my daughter has come to love and admire.
