UPDATE: Car Seat Shopping

UPDATE: I am still car seat shopping, this is a big decision but one I need to make soon since Wiggle is officially to tall for her infant seat.

I was leaning towards the Britax Marathon car seat but one of my readers suggested the RECARO Signo car seat( I have never heard of this seat before).

Does anyone have experience with either of these car seats?

Maybe I should get one of each since I have to buy two (one for me and one for daycare).

Who would have thought that car seat shopping would be such an ordeal.  Not me, that is for sure.

Before Wiggle Bean was born we found a Graco travel system on sale a Target.  It included the Snugride car seat and a full size stroller.  It was a cute pattern and a great price so we bought it with out thinking much about it.  I ever even thought about what I would do when she got a little bigger.  The Snugride fits until 22 pounds and 29 inches.  This is my first baby so I had no idea how quickly they grew but figured this would last at least the first year and probably even longer.

Wiggle is 9 1/2 months and weighs around 18 pounds. So that should give us another good 5 pounds, per the manufacturer, before she is  too big for her infant seat, right?  WRONG!!!  I gave birth to a bean pole.  She is already at (past) the 29' height recommended limit for the seat.

So now the research begins to find the safest most comfortable seat available.  We would like our next seat to last for a while so we are putting a little more effort into the search.  I found some great sites that rate convertible car seats.

After much research I have narrowed it down to 5 (in no particular order)

Britax Marathon and Boulevard

Graco  My Ride 65

Evenflo Symphony

Safety 1st Complete Air and Alpha Omega Elite

Every where I look tells me different things about which one is rated the best so I am turning to you, my readers to tell me your experiences.

Which seat worked best for you and what features did you like or dislike?

We currently have a Recaro Signo

And we love it. IT is a heavy seat and the straps are great. My daughter is 16 months and still rear-facing with plenty of room.

The other we seat we have is a considerable cheaper Graco and it doesn't even come close in comparison to the Recaro.

We also bought our Recaro from a web site called Hip Monkey. All proceeds go to the David Kyle Miller Foundation.

Britax Marathon. Can't say one bad thing about it. Both styles were rated in the top 8 for safety. It's USA made! Whoowhoo. When I bought ours I was stopped in the parking lot by a Mom and she said "I know that car seat just coast you a arm & a leg but it is the BEST purchase and you will fall in love with it" I thought it was strange she said that at the time but now I understand what she meant! Great seat. CUTE patters and most of all SAFE.

I have the Britax Marathon and love it. It gives me the assurance that my son is safe and he is comfortable in it. He is now 3 1/2 years old and still enjoys sitting in it. I bought mine on ebay for less than the retail price.

I don't have the Marathon but I do own the Britax Decathlon. We love it! Britax is rated high for safety and their seats usually go to 33 lbs. rear facing and up to 65lbs. forward facing. Plus, they are made in the USA with US and global parts.

I have the Britax Marathon as well as three of my friends. I like it. It adjusts so the child can sit up or lean back a bit.

Another Britax fan here. Good for you for looking for a safe seat. Britax seats currently actually go up to 35 lbs rear-facing, and I recommend rear-facing as long as possible, even after 1 year/20 lbs. It's so much safer!
